The “cuc-koo” sound is created by two bellows (pipes) in the clock, the clock’s movement activates the bellows to send a puff of air into each pipe alternately when the clock strikes.

On every hour and half hourly the cuckoo bird emerges from a swinging door above the clock dial and counts the hour by cuckooing once per hour.(Example at 1 o'clock the bird will cuckoo once. At 8 o'clock the bird wil cuckoo eight times.
